Cambridge Central Mosque: A Beautiful Venue for Your Nikkah
My Visit to Cambridge Central Mosque
I was in Cambridge recently for a wedding, which finished late and meant an overnight stay. The following day was gloriously sunny, and I felt it would have been criminal not to visit Cambridge Central Mosque! This incredible mosque opened in 2019 and has already won several prestigious architectural awards, including recognition from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
As I walked around, I was struck by its beauty and calmness. The wooden lattice pillars, open space, and natural light give the mosque an almost heavenly-like feel—yet it still feels deeply rooted in Islamic tradition. During my visit, I witnessed several Nikkah ceremonies taking place one after another, each one filled with joy and meaning. I haven’t had the honour of photographing a Nikkah there yet, but InshaAllah, one day!

Tips for Couples Getting Married in Cambridge Mosques
Check timings carefully—Nikkahs usually take place outside of the main congregational prayers.
Non-muslim guests are of course more than welcome, but advise them to dress modestly and save them the hassle of googling ‘what to wear at an Islamic wedding’!
Ask about the mosque’s community hall/cafe if you’d like to hold a small gathering afterwards.
