Sam Beare - Dragon Boat Race 2018

For personal reasons, Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a charity close to my heart. The hospice "delivers specialist palliative care to people who have advanced life-limiting conditions". Of course, they also spend considerable time supporting the families.
My mother spent her last few weeks at the hospice and we could not have asked for a more caring or friendlier team caring for her. Before July 2017, I had no idea what a hospice was or did. Everyone at Sam Beare were amazing for the two weeks we and literally hundreds of visitors were there. I think my mother still holds the most visitors record! Our family was blown away by everyone and so now, my brothers and I volunteer as often as we can.
For the past couple of years, Sam Bear have held their annual Dragon Boat Races & Fun Day at Goldsworth Park Lake. I was there to photograph the 2018 event. We had one of the hottest days of the year and everyone taking part and attending had a great time. There were stalls selling plants, fruits, food, ice cream, drinks, a BBQ, bouncy castles..... and throughout all that, there were the dragon boat races!
The race times for the top teams were less than a second apart but in the final race, Seymours won the top prize. More importantly than that, everyone taking part had a great time and I'm sure lots of money was raised for a great cause. It genuinely was about the taking part yesterday!
Lastly, if you would like to donate some 'spare change' to Sam Beare, then head over to their Donations Page!
Here are photographs from yesterday. As always, if there are images you would like, please email me the image numbers (info@sumanzaman.com) and I'll send them over.
