Afan - Day 1 - The First Day

 Afan 2022 - Day 1

What’s better than a family holiday in the UK in the middle of a heatwave??? A family holiday with 19 other family members! Our long drive to Afan, Glyncorrwg, Wales started off at 10am on a hot Sunday morning but we had planned a stopover for lunch in Bath at Dyrham Park. Already the views of the countryside were amazing and from the hill where we had our picnic, we could see the Severn bridge, which we would be crossing soon.

The way back to the car park was a 1 mile uphill walk, which nearly made Aarshia cry but I think it trained her well for the walking to come! We also met a lovely couple during the walk; they are both English but now live in Wales. The lady was from Epsom! We told them some of our plans and they suggested that instead of going to Port Talbot beach, we go to Porthcawl instead and suggested a route to take to find a quiet area. One of the best pieces of advice ever!

Here are photos from Dryham Park!

PS - Lipa also saved a life! We found this young girl, whom I thought was walking in from of her mother but when Lipa asked her where her family was, she burst out crying saying she had lost them. I left them and ran around for a bit until I saw a very worried guy and waved him down. I asked him if he was looking for a girl and then they were reunited. Never have I been seen more relieved people.

After a lovely break, we carried on to Wales! The Bunkhouse was amazing. There were a few glitches, mainly with the ventilation in the main living area, which didn’t help in 30+C temperatures but we all coped. Surprisingly, we all arrived within 30minutes of each other and the guys were shocked to learn that we had all picked the same green t-shirt for our drive to Wales! After dumping our bags a few of us made a quick visit (nearly a 2hr round trip) to Swansea to pick up our halal supplies for the week.

Dinner was pizza, which proved trickier than normal…. no one delivered to us and there was no seafood options at Domino’s! Luckily, we found a halal pizza place in Maesteg, a local town, which we would visit almost every day for our Tesco shop!

Photos from our first afternoon and evening in Cymru - find the lovely photo of BhabiJaan looking angry at me :-)
