Afan - Day 4 - Porthcawl Beach

 Afan - Day 4 - Porthcawl Beach

We had always planned to spend a day at the beach, especially when we knew that we were in the midst of a heatwave. Initially the plan was to go to Port Talbot but a local I met in Bath on Sunday recommended Porthcawl and boy was it a great tip. We parked up… £4.20 for the entire day! There were some people who complain about the cost of parking in Wales but we literally were paying £3-4 wherever we went to park for the whole day. These complainers need to visit Surrey and London! We had a 15 minute walk along the beach to get to the quiet area and then we had to clamber over rocks and then some more jagged rocks to get down to the beach but once there we were down, we were greeted with this…

We had a huge sandy beach to ourselves and behind, there were huge rockpools to play in as well. As had been the norm all week, the weather was 30C and the beach was the perfect place to be. I didn’t take too many photos because, let’s face it… today was a day about getting thoroughly wet! Also, I had a problem with photobombers!

But, all was fine in the end, when Tarek got revenge on all his Bhabis later on.

Naturally, Aarshia saw water and got stuck in straight away…

After yesterday’s epic mountain/big hill climb, we needed a day to relax and this was certainly a perfect way. After a long afternoon of swimming, paddling, splashing, trying to drown Romi…. some of us decided to go for a long walk. We left Tarek in charge as he was sunbathing/napping. The tide was coming in when we left but i thought it would be a good hour plus before we would have to move. So imagine our surprise 10 minutes later when we turned around after noticing that the tide was coming in slightly faster than predicted. When we got back to our gang rushing to get themselves and all our belongings out of the sea! We nearly lost Kobir Bhai to the sea as he became stranded in what used to be our rockpool. Alas, our huge strip of sand that had entertained us all day vanished in the space of 15-20 minutes! Which, was also just when Taman arrived to join us!

Dinner was an all south Asian affair with Tarek’s Tom Yum soup followed by Lipa’s Thai Green Chicken Curry. Both dishes hit the spot perfectly! I didn’t actually get photos of the dishes themselves, so you’ll have to make do with the pots!
